Alhamdulillah, over the past few years UNC MSA has grown to become one of the strongest and most developed Muslim student organizations in the country. As this growth happened, we realized the need to provide a way for alumni to stay involved with, and help support, the organization.

The philosophy of the Board of Trustees is twofold: (1) to help manage the long-term projects and initiatives of UNC MSA; and (2) to support the Executive Board and lend assistance when asked. This last part—“when asked”—is important. One of the reasons that UNC MSA has been so successful is the full autonomy undergraduate students have in running the organization. The Board of Trustees in no way seeks to abridge that. We do not have a say in the day-to-day activities of UNC MSA and do not serve as a “super” executive board. We are merely here to assist the Executive Board in fulfilling its vision for UNC MSA.

Among the various long-term initiatives we are working on are

sending students to Umrah and Hajj every year;
awarding scholarships for students to attend UNC and for alumni to attend graduate school;
creating a robust alumni network; and
establishing a Muslim student center on campus.

If you want to get in contact with any of us, please just reach out to the Executive Board and they will make the connection. We would love to serve as a resource to undergraduate Muslim students in any and all ways that we can! Inshallah, we will be able to help every UNC MSA member make the most of their four years at Carolina.

May God continue to shower His blessings on this organization. UNC MSA has always been a lifelong family, and the establishment of the Board of Trustees is just another step in that beautiful tradition.

Ayoub Ouederni ‘17

B.S. Business Administration; Mathematical Decision Sciences

Ayoub is from Charlotte, NC. He is currently a student at Yale Law School, where he serves as an editor of the Yale Law Journal. Prior to law school, Ayoub worked as a financial software developer at a boutique bond-trading firm.

At Carolina, Ayoub served as the First-Year Representative (2013–2014), Vice President (2014–2015), and President (2016–2017) of UNC MSA.

Rawan Ajeen ‘19

B.S. Public Health; Psychology

Rawan is from Wilmington, NC. She currently works as a Data Coordinator at the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC.

At Carolina, Rawan served as the Publicity Chair (2018) and Vice President (2018–2019) of UNC MSA.

Tazeen Farooque ‘16

B.A Biology; Political Science

Tazeen is from Cary, NC. She is currently working on her Master of Healthcare Administration at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Upon graduation, she will be pursuing an administrative fellowship at UNC Health.

At Carolina, Tazeen served as the Education Chair (2014–2015) and President (2015–2016) of UNC MSA.

Omar Laaroussi ‘18

B.S. Psychology

Omar is from Charlotte, NC. He currently works as a College Affordability Counselor at uAspire in Boston, MA. Omar will soon be matriculating at Al-Azhar University in Egypt to study Islamic law and theology.

At Carolina, Omar served as the Development Chair (2016–2017) and Vice President (2017–2018) of UNC MSA.

Hamza is from Cary, NC. He currently works as a Business Analyst at Capital One in Washington, DC.
