MSA First Year Representative Elections

2026-2027

First Year Representative Candidate Profiles

Sundus Khan

Salam everyone! My name is Sundus and I'm currently a bio major. Here’s a little bit about me, some of my hobbies include reading, traveling, and hanging out with my family and friends. I attended a pretty big high school and was on the board of a couple different clubs there such as HOSA and KeyClub. Those roles taught me a lot about what it takes to advocate for a community and the importance of commitment. I hope that as freshmen rep I am able to become someone that first years and transfers can turn to for support and as a voice for all of your ideas and suggestions. Overall I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you and inshAllah working alongside you guys to make it a memorable year!

Musa Zafiruddin

Assalamualaikum Everyone! My name is Musa Zafiruddin, and I’m majoring in Biomedical Engineering on a pre-med track. A little bit about me: I enjoy playing board games, building things, and spending time with the people around me. Since joining MSA, I’ve found a community where I can grow in my deen, build genuine friendships, and feel like I belong. As Freshman Rep, I hope to help create that same experience for others. I want MSA to be a place where all Muslims, no matter how much they know, can grow their deen, connect with others, and feel at home.

Fatima Khurram

Salam! I'm Fatima, and I'm running for First-Year Rep because I want to make MSA a welcoming and connected community for every freshman at UNC. To me, MSA is a space for us to build connections, grow in our faith, and find a sense of belonging during a new chapter of life. As we navigate our first year at UNC, as the future of the organization, I want to help create opportunities for first-year students to become more involved with MSA. As a former student leader in high school involved in Student Government, National Honor Society, and various competitive organizations, I gained experience with planning socials and professional development events. I intend to bring that experience to UNC MSA through events and initiatives that further allow us to foster community and grow together.

Khizer Ahmed

Salam everyone! I’m Khizer Ahmed, a first-year from Morrisville, NC. Growing up, I’ve always been pretty involved with my local masjid and Muslim community, which is a big part of why having a strong community around me means so much. I also served as president of my MSA in high school, where I was able to bring people together and plan different events. Outside of that, I’m pretty easygoing, love playing sports, meeting new people, and just having a good time. I want to be the First-Year Rep because I’m really passionate about what MSA does and the community it works to create. I’d love to contribute to that by helping our class grow closer, planning events people actually enjoy, and making sure first-years feel comfortable and included within MSA. I’d love to get to know more of you throughout the year, hear any ideas you guys have, and hopefully make some great memories together along the way, inshaAllah!

Maryam Jawad

Salam everyone! My name is Maryam Jawad. I am studying Neuroscience, and I believe that I am the right fit for this position because I have prior experience with leadership, working with others, being understanding, and communicating well! At my high school, I helped find and was the President of the Muslim Students Association, and I want to bring the same drive and passion I have to UNC Chapel Hill. I want to bring together the Class of 2030, where we can all rely on each other, find lifelong friends, and be supported in our deen while being students living in the West. I am ready to listen to your thoughts and make sure that your needs and concerns are addressed, and I cannot wait to hopefully become a part of something great.

Aashir Muhammad

Salaam, my name is Aashir Muhammad. I am from High Point, NC. But originally from Pakistan in a small town called Attock. I am running for Freshmen Rep, to better the advocacy for freshmen's and tailor more events towards freshmen. I want to bring us together and make a big community. Inshallah, I have some events which I really want to do. So please vote for me and have great rest of your day!
